Kenya, officially the Republic of Kenya, is a country in East Africa. Lying along the Indian Ocean to its southeast and at the equator, it is bordered by Somalia to the northeast, Ethiopia to the north, South Sudan to the northwest, Uganda to the west and Tanzania to the south. With its capital city in Nairobi, Kenya has numerous wildlife reserves containing thousands of animal species. It has a land area of 580,000 km2 and a population of nearly 39 million, representing many different peoples and cultures.

Kenya’s economy is heavily dependant on rain-fed agriculture and tourism leaves it vulnerable to cycles of boom and bust. The agricultural sector directly and indirectly employs nearly 70 percent of the country's 38 million people. Half of the sector's output remains at subsistence production levels.

HIV/AIDS continues to pose a long term risk to the country. The government has implemented awareness programs to control its spread. Much time money and effort has been spent trying to meet the daily needs of children orphaned by this deadly disease.

Feeding AIDS orphans is important, however, it is not enough. Training these "at risk" young people with life skills is key in breaking the cycle of poverty and disease. UniReach’s first project in Africa is focused on just that. Learn More.

Unireach is also actively researching future projects in Camaroon.
